"Today's health research is tomorrow's health care"
in Dublin Castle, Ireland on 13-14 June 2006
This major two-day conference is being organised by the Health Research Board. The purpose of the conference is to bring national and international experts together in a dynamic interchange of views and opinion, with the aim of informing the future shape and development of health research and policy in Ireland. Invited experts will address the conference focusing on three key areas:
- The impact of health research and information for health policy and patient care
- The economic impact of health research
- Health research policy and practice - the way ahead
We are pleased to confirm the following key speakers:
- The Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney, who will officially open the conference and will host a reception and attend the conference dinner in the State Apartments of Dublin Castle.
- Dr Enrique Ruelas*, Mexican Under Secretary for Innovation and Quality in the Ministry of Health, who will deliver the keynote speech on the conference topic, 'Today's health research is tomorrow's health care'.
- Dr Irving Gold, Director of Knowledge Transfer and Exchange, Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, who will speak about effective ways to apply research-based evidence to policy and practice - using brokers to bridge the divide.
- Dr Damian O'Connell, Executive Director of Clinical R&D, Pfizer Global Research and Development, will talk about Industry supported health research and the current and potential contribution that it may have on the Irish Economy.
Due to circumstances beyond his control Dr Julio Frenk, the Mexican Minister of Health, has had to withdraw from the conference at short notice. Dr Enrique Ruelas will deputise for him.
